I was having a hard time sleeping last night, mostly because of my back hurting but I was thinking of a few things so here it goes.
Personally I don’t think we need those 5 LNG plants that have proposed to setup along the ship channel. While they might be relatively safe and provide a good amount of jobs, I think as a city we can do better, after all we should be a touristic city and not an industrial city. Those LNG plants want tax free incentives for something along the likes of 10-20 years, but then what happens after that time? There may be no guarantee they won’t go bankrupt and jump ship and leave the city with an eyesore of abandoned buildings.
But what if we could do something better, long term and something that will bring in tourists from other parts of Texas, Mexico, and other parts of the world? What if we built a boardwalk along Boca Chica Beach? How awesome could that be? Premier restaurants, carnival games, an aquarium, a university research center for aquatic life, we can put that aircraft carrier (USS Ranger) that came in and make it into a museum like Corpus Christi, the possibilities are endless and this would be something that all of us as a city can benefit for years to come.
I made an illustration of what this could look like on an evening with a Space X Falcon 9 rocket taking launch in the background. Now how cool would that be? Seriously. Let’s make this go viral like the last publication. Share this post and tell our city leaders that you demand this. Let’s make it happen.
