I was talking to my buddy Luis Robles and when I asked him what he was eating today, he told me a bacon and cheese hamburger at Whataburger and I was like “damn man, that’s a butt load of food” and which he mentions “Yeah and I got the What a Size too, so good and tasty” Later he shows me a picture of his receipt which like around $7.38, which then it occurred to me, why is it so expensive to eat healthy? I mean seriously, what does a salad consists of? Lettuce, tomatoes, shredded cheese, diced carrots, a few slices of chicken and salad dressing and if you go to any fast food place you’re going to fork out about $7 dollars and they don’t normally give you a drink so that means you have to pay an extra cost for a refreshment. Now if you ask me, I’ll rather have a Whataburger any day of the week as opposed to eating a salad that doesn’t really taste as good and fills me up.
So after researching this is what I found out. In the beginning of 20th century, there was food shortages. To make sure that American’s got enough food, the federal government started paying farmers to grow food. This was a great concept because it was a win for everyone: the government, the farmers, and the public Everyone ate, people got paid, and everyone had a smile on their face. Everything was going well until … we started having too much food. Now we are dealing with the opposite problem, we have too much food so the price is dirt cheap.
The food the federal government is subsidizing is what’s making us fat. Most of the money going towards the meat, dairy and corn industry, AND only a very small amount of it goes to the fruit & vegetable industry. We keep voting scum in government and wonder why we don’t see commercials about broccoli.
