Selena is one of my all time favorite singers, and I don’t even like much Tejano music but the way she sang it made me fall in love with it and not many Tejano singers can do that.  Her music forever changed the industry and inspires even singers today to be a lot like her.   At the time of her death, , she was only 24 years old and at the peak of her career, she had began to make a big crossover into the English speaking market.  I was only 11 years old when Selena was killed by her supposed called “best friend” Yolanda Saldivar and it was a shock to everyone, I remember my mom crying and that made me sad seeing her cry so I think I cried too.

While Selena is not around anymore, her presence and music live on… just visit any karaoke in South Texas where Spanish music is played and you can listen to her.  Selena was great because unlike the pop stars of today, she didn’t have to get naked or do anything crazy to get recognized, her talent alone put her out there and that is something that we won’t see in a very long time. You can visit the Selena monument at Corpus Christi at the boardwalk.
