In the beginning of the year I invited everyone on the blog to join a challenge with me, to run 5K every day for the rest of the year, in essence 1825K or 365 days straight. I didn’t start till January 2nd because in the New Year I was on the road traveling but since it’s leap year, there’s an extra day, so in essence the challenge still applies, I’ll still make up the kilometers missed by running a little bit extra and eventually meet the full amount for the year. To my surprise, several people expressed interest in the challenge but only a select few actually took on the challenge. Here’s who they are.
Angela Medina is 39, a native originally from Alamo but now living in Harlingen. She has been running for the past 3 years and has competed in several 5K races. She currently works as a case manager and is a loving wife and busy mom. She has taken this challenge to help her lose weight.
Next is Rodolfo Gutiérrez, 38 years old and a pastor. Originally from Cd. Victoria, Tamaulipas, who is now living in Brownsville. He loves running in cold weather and also has joined the challenge to lose weight. On occasion he does a bi-national 5K, running from Brownsville to Matamoros and vice versa. He’s a father of two daughters and husband.
Evaristo Terrones is our youngest runner, at 26 years old and a current occupational therapist from Houston. Like most our challengers, he’s joined to get fit and stay away from ” los vicios. ” Besides running, he also does cycling and strength training.
Erika Gonzalez, 42 originally from Monclova Vieja, Coahuila, MX and now living in San Benito is a mom and wife. She injured her toe early on which slowed her progress but she’s determined to make up for it.
Last but not least is me, Frank Mar, 36 years old. Most of yall reading this know me so I won’t go into a whole lot of detail about my life but I’ve never really ran before, other than an unofficial 5K in 2019 for Charro Days. It’s been amazing that I’ve been able to go out and run 5K each and every day, rain or shine. Querer es poder.
At the time of post, we have ran for 10 days straight (50K) , Angela joined the following day (45K) and Erika got hurt but they will be making it up in the upcoming days so that we’re all on track. It’s still to early to tell who from us 5 will complete the challenge but we’re in this together and we’ve formed a pretty good bond encouraging each other each day to go out there and complete our daily goal. At the end of the year, we’ll have everyone join us to come run with us and help us celebrate this journey together. Will have an update on our progress in three months.
