Existe la Brujeria? Dark Magic, manipulate and destroy.

It is said that there are people that can control others against their will by sorcery.  In the bible, they are several scriptures talking about magic. Pone in particular in Leviticus 20:27 says “Now a man or a woman who is a medium or a spiritist shall surely be put to death. They shall be stoned with stones, their blood guiltiness is upon them”  If you go down 14th street in Brownsville you can find a few “hierberias” and if you just stop by and take a look see you may get a little freaked out.  First thing you’ll notice is when going inside a place like this is the particular smell, which mostly comes from all the different ointments, candles, and incenses and typically in all cases a lady at the cashier which more than likely will be the owner.  She may ask you what you’re looking for, a home remedy to treat a disease, maybe a candle to improve your economic situation or maybe tell you if you want to curse someone.

So you decide that maybe there is someone you don’t like and you want to curse them for eternity.  You tell the lady “Quiero desearle mal a una persona (I wish evil upon someone)” and she will take you to the back to a little room.  There may be a statue or an altar of the Santisima Muerte (Holy Death) with many candles lit.  She pulls a pack of tarot cards and reads your fortune and tells you what is going on in your life and the life of this other person.  She asks you a confirmation of what you desire to this person and tells you that there is no going back once the curse is placed. You agree and with gestures of the hand and maybe some spanish gibberish the curse has been placed. Depending on the certain curse, you may be given an object that you may need to bury in their back yard or give them a potion of some sort after inviting them for a drink.  Some days may pass and you notice this person acting strange and little by little a transformation starts taking place.  Your curse begins to work and the person who you hate gets fired, their significant other breaks up with them, or may even gets sick and dies.

 

All of this seems far fetched, but they are people who claim these things are possible.  Some as the lady in the hierberia devote themselves into this type of belief.  I don’t personally think of any of this is true, but when I was small my mom used to believe all these things and even to a certain degree still continues to this day.  Let me know what you think and share any stories you may have, would like to hear from you.
