The Sensory and Perception Experience.

{:en}We have five senses, touch, sight, taste, smell, sound, and some argue that we have a 6th sense which could be love, imagination, spiritualism .etc..  Out of all the main senses, the most important one that can be argued would be our ability to see. We perceive up to 80 per cent of all impressions by means of our sight . And if other senses such as taste or smell stop working, it’s the eyes that best protect us from danger.

Yesterday I was able to be part of a unique experience to allow visitors to be blindfolded and experience a unique way of perceiving through other means than just their eyes.  We don’t know what people go through or feel for those that have visual impairments but through this little exhibit we experienced a little bit of that feeling, relying on other senses to try to create an image in our head. It is amazing how our sight plays in a lot of the things we eat, even though we rely on our sense of taste to eat things we rely on our sight to make up our minds whether food may taste good or not. When we hear things, we rely on our sense of hearing, but even that too can be altered by removing our ability to see, when you see watch television for example and the volume is low, sometimes you’re able to “listen” because your eyes can see the lips moving and the mind fills in the rest allowing you to understand, but close your eyes and all of a sudden you’re not able to understand what those actors say.

I have a new great profound respect for people with visual impairments thanks to this wonderful exhibit.  Take a look at some of the pictures below.
