Practice Safe Sex. End unwanted teen pregnancy.

Ever go to HEB and Walmart and you see all these teenage girls pregnant or already have lot’s of kids? some of them are still in high school and maybe some have dropped out.  Only a handful of teenagers who get pregnant actually go on to finish school and maybe get a college education.  Teenagers now a days don’t know what it’s like to face the consequences of having an unplanned pregnancy.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m not pro-abortion or anything like that, I think having children is the greatest thing ever but let’s be honest,  it’s a lot of personal sacrifices and most importantly financial resources and many of these teenage girls and boys may not be ready for that.  Now I can’t tell anyone to do anything but I would like to share a few personal perspectives.

Sex is a natural thing and in reality people here in America blow things out of proportion.  Is teenage sex a good thing? Well only if its with other teenagers then I would say yes.  We all went through high school life, the flirting, the kissing, the sneaking in or for many sneaking out, the car sex, your parents out of town on the weekend, house parties, I mean all these things are part of teenage life and it has been like this generation after generation.  I feel that today’s generation with all the social networking in places, makes having sex a lot easier with just a click of a button and with that leads to a bigger risk of possible unwanted pregnancy.  So what can young people do to protect themselves from ruining their life? Communication with their partner and most importantly, practice safe sex.  Because let’s be honest, nobody is going to give up sex so the best thing we can do is educate young people about it.

They are many forms of birth control out there and I think it’s important to know the different options to decide what is best for a person. So we’ll go over a few options and see what’s available.

1condoms

Condom on a banana.

The Condom, this is the most common form of birth control that is out there and easiest to put on.  There is a few sayings out there like “Before you attack her, wrap your whacker”  or Cloak the joker before you poke her” whatever saying is easier for you remember, think of one and stick to it. Guys if your going to be having sex, be responsible, and buy a pack of condoms. They come in many different styles, textures, sizes , and even some flavors.  Girls it’s okay to carry your own pack of condoms, you can’t just rely on your boyfriend to have some since guys sometimes will just be forgetful.  If you need any instructions on how to put on a condom, apparently there is some actual educational videos on youtube. Just search “How to put a condom”

Birth Control Pills.

The pill,  is the second most common form of birth control out there.  Birth control pills if taken correctly is just as effective as condoms, the downside is that it relies on the important of girls actually taking them and timely. If any girls want to get some birth control, you can visit a planned parenthood center near you and you may be able to get some at little or at no cost. They are some advantages to taking birth control pills for women such as helping improve acne, regulates menstrual cycles so women with irregular periods can benefit, don’t have to worry about the boyfriend having a condom or not. The disadvantages are also that the pills have to be taken daily and regularly, missing a day or two will cause the effectiveness of the pills.  Some women may gain weight and for those women who are very picky about their weight may cause them to stop taking them. Since birth control pills are technically chemicals entering your body you may not be able to take certain types of antibiotics in the case that you get sick with a bacterial infection.  They are different types of pills such as estrogen, progestin-only, some pills that stop your period for 3 months and up to a year, consult with your gynecologist to see what is best for you and your body.

Ortho Evra applied on back.

The Patch, is basically taking birth control pills and consolidated it into a patch that sticks on your skin. You can put this in your arms, back, butt, thighs.   Like birth control pills since these patches are introducing chemicals to your body, you will definitely want to talk with a doctor and find out what works best for you. The only real difference between the patch and the pills are basically you don’t need to remember taking them daily and that you only need to remember to change the patch once a week.  The most common brand of the patch is from Ortho-Evra.

Norplant Contraceptive

The implant, is a form of birth control but for long term use.   The way it works is that special rods with chemicals are put under your skin and hormones are released so that your body stops from ovulating and in essence makes it impossible to get pregnant.  Since this form of birth control is long term (5 years), women should definitely consider all options and if they are willing to not have children for the next 5 years. Once the rods are inserted under your skin, scar tissue usually forms and thus removing them usually requires an incision.  The common brand for the birth control implants is Norplant and Nexplanon.

forced-sterilization-400x400Sterilization, is a permanent form of birth control.  For women, this is what is called “tying your tubes” and for men this is what is called “shooting blanks”.  This is something I really wouldn’t recommend myself to anyone as it is going to last forever and I would definitely advise if it is something that you want to consider to sit down with your family and maybe even consult with a psychologist to find out if this decision is best for you. Enjoying your youth is great but everyone gets older sooner or later and the decision to have family will come across your mind, so if you’re absolutely sure that you don’t want to have children and are okay with that, then sterilization may be a choice for you.

Whoever says sex is wrong, they themselves are wrong and more than likely haven’t had any or hasn’t had enough but if you’re unsure about sex, don’t do it, there isn’t anything wrong with that. Keep in mind that nobody can force you to do anything and if you need to talk to someone, try talking to an older sister or brother or if you feel that you can talk to your parents about it, talk to them. If you feel pressured by anyone, let them know and don’t go through with it.  If you do make the decision to have sex, be responsible and use protection. If you need to talk to somebody you can call the safeteen hotline @ 1-866-safeteens or if you want to message me directly you can go through the contact form from the website or a send a message on facebook directly and I’ll get back to you.
